Cynthia Bio
Biography of Cynthia Waring
Cynthia Waring began studying writing in 1983 and has published articles, poetry, essays and a book entitled, Bodies Unbound, Transforming Life Through Touch. Bodies Unbound chronicles her work as a massage therapist. These heart-warming stories with her clients, and her own memoirs have received outstanding reviews.
Cynthia also teaches writing. The purpose of this class is to look at ones life in depth and to gain insight into the universal human experience; how we are molded by tradition, limiting self-concepts, fears and dogma until we barely know the difference between our own experience and what we’ve been taught. This class hopes to inspire a strong sense of self worth and the confidence to express personal truth.
Cynthia hosted a poetry reading at Beyond Baroque and coffee shops in Los Angeles for culturally diverse artists. ”It’s time we express our feelings on paper rather than violently in the streets,” says Waring.
She has given lectures on creativity, taught workshops and led seminars on subjects ranging from Memoir Writing, the Passion of Creativity to Sacred Theater. Her students have been as diverse as the women in Women’s Creativity Project in Los Angeles, to centers housing abused women.
In 1995, Waring wrote, directed and performed a one woman show based on her book, Bodies Unbound. It ran for six months in Los Angeles in 1997, and went to New York at the WOW Café Theatre the summer of 1998. Her performance is now going to Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Cynthia’s goal is to inspire people to see the beauty and magnificence of their own lives, and to create a tradition and pride in the wisdom gained in aging.
Cynthia now lives in Ojai with husband Wyn Matthews and their two dogs and two cats. Ms. Waring continues to practice Massage, teaches in the local massage school, teaches writing classes and is currently working on her second book, The Writer and the Would-be Mystic.
